Robert Hugh Stone

Mr. Robert Hugh Stone, age 85 of Lebanon passed away December 20, 2025.

Born February 5, 1940, in Wilson County, he is the son of the late Marshall Leslie Stone and Carrie Etta Belcher Stone.  He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1957 and from Cumberland College and had two Master Degrees from George Peabody University.  He was a member of First Baptist Church, and played the organ or piano for several churches over the years.  He retired from Harland Clarke.  He loved books, poetry, plays, music, family, and friends.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara Stone Petty; niece, Leslie Ann (Van) Irwin; nephews, Lee Alan Petty and Larry Anthony (Laura) Petty; great nieces, Sloan Irwin (Nate) McDaniel, Emma Grace and Mae Elaine Petty; and great nephew, Sean Irwin.

There will be a private graveside service at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff at Lebanon Center for Rehabilitation and Healing and to Gentiva Hospice.

    I am completely devastated and heartbroken by hearing the news of the passing of Mr. Stone. Mr. Stone was a very knowledgeable man. He was kind hearted as well. I love the stories he would tell. He would pray with me. He loved Dr Pepper and Ginger ale. I thank God that he gave me the honor the privilege and the pleasure to take care of Mr. Stone. He will truly be missed.     Robert was a loyal friend and a man with a generous heart. And what a creative mind!! Could recite his valedictorian speech backwards. The world has lost a uniquely talented person.

    My sincere condolences go out to Robert’s family. I remember singing with him in the Coble Singers and I very much enjoyed his spirit and sense of humor. I know he will be missed.
