Pollyanna Yost Lucas
Pollyanna Yost Lucas, 91, of Lebanon TN., formally of Bluefield VA, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Southern Manor Living Center, Lebanon, Tennessee.
Polly was born April 24, 1927, in Bluefield Virginia, daughter of the late Fred and Pauline Yost. She married the love her life, Thomas Felts Lucas on July 16, 1949. Polly was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas F. Lucas, her daughter, Janette Faye Lucas Staley, and her brother, Ronald K. Yost.
Polly attended Graham High School in Bluefield, Virginia and graduated in 1945. She continued her education at Radford University where she earned a B.S. degree in Education and later earned a Master of Science in Education from Radford University. Polly began her teaching career at Pocahontas Elementary School in Pocahontas, Virginia before making a change to secondary education. She then taught English and social studies at both Tazewell High School in Tazewell, Virginia and Graham High School in Bluefield, Virginia. Later Polly became a guidance counselor at Graham High School and continued until her retirement in 1983.
Polly had a passion for reading and was a lifelong learner. She was also an avid music lover, member of several social, civic and church related groups. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Polly was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bluefield, Virginia. Following their retirement, from Tazewell County Schools, Polly and her husband Tom moved to Ellenton, Florida where they enjoyed swimming, traveling, and the companionship of many friends.
She is survived by her brothers Frederick R .Yost, Leonard C. Yost; sons Thomas F. (Tom) Lucas Jr. (Barbara) Wilmington, NC; Frederick Carl (Ric) Lucas (Cathy) Roanoke, VA; daughter Kathryn Anne (Kathy) Richardson (Rusty) Lebanon, TN; son-in-law Roger Staley and wife Martha, Newton, NC; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Dudley Memorial Mortuary, 729 Virginia Ave. Bluefield, VA on March 16, 2019 at 12:00 noon with visitation one hour prior. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, in memory of Pollyanna Yost Lucas.
