Opal Barrett Midgett

Mrs. Opal Barrett Midgett, age 89 of Lebanon, passed away on Tuesday morning October 17, 2023 at the Lebanon Center for Health and Rehabilitation. She was born in Smith County, TN October 12, 1934 to the late Charlie Barrett and Alberta Skelton Barrett. On March 11, 1953 she married the late D. Billy Midgett who preceded her in death August 31, 2003. In addition to her parents and her spouse, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Kyle Midgett and a brother, Charles Barrett.

Mrs. Midgett graduated from Watertown High School in 1952. She was a faithful member of College Hills Church of Christ and worked for over 20 years in the church nursery. Mrs. Midgett retired from AT&T Telephone in 1985, having served 31 years as a service analyst and operator. She was a member of the “Telephone Pioneers” and also volunteered with the American Red Cross helping with the local blood drives. Mrs. Midgett also loved spending time with her friends at the Lebanon Senior Citizens Center.

She is survived by her son, David Midgett; granddaughter, Amber Fleming; great-grandchildren, Hayes & Copeland Fleming, and Lawren (Seth) Reynolds; great-great-grandson, Klayton Reynolds; brothers, Dalton, Wayne, and Louis (Patricia) Barrett; sisters, Fay Curtis, Erma Barrett, and Jean Russell. A host of nieces and nephews and extended family also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled to be conducted on Friday October 20, 2023 at 11:00AM from the chapel of Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Owen officiating. Interment will follow in the Wilson County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday October 19, 2023 from 3:00PM until 7:00PM and again on Friday after 10:00AM. Pallbearers will be Charlie Sorrells, Albert Midgett, Lynn Russell, Greg Barrett, Harold Barrett, and Brian Reeder. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Dept. of College Hills Church of Christ. (1401 Leeville Pike Lebanon, TN 37090)
