Nettie Laughter Davis

Mrs. Nettie Ardella Laughter Davis, age 82 of Lebanon, TN and formerly of Saluda, NC, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 24, 2023 at her home.

Nettie was born April 20, 1941 in Saluda, NC to the late Alfred Lloyd and Maggie Estelle Rivers Laughter. She attended Saluda High School and later graduated from Blanton’s Business College in Asheville, NC receiving her degree in business. Soon realizing that business wasn’t her calling, she moved to Wyoming where she became a nanny to many children, including her first niece and nephews.  Home soon came calling from North Carolina when her husband to be, Roland Davis, convinced her to return. She and Roland were wed on March 15, 1970. They shared many wonderful years of marriage until his passing on February 18, 2006. In addition to her parents and her husband, Nettie was preceded in death by her siblings; Betty Faye Laughter, Agnes Christine LeVesque, Joe Laughter, James ‘CoonDog’ Laughter and Nancy Pitkin.

Nettie possessed a deep love for Jesus Christ and because of her deep rooted faith she is remembered by friends and loved ones as giving others a feeling of love, belonging, protection, and a place to call home. This is a legacy that will be carried out and honored by those that survive her.  Nettie believed in sharing the love of Christ with anyone who came into her life, and that same Christ-like love has also been shown by others toward her family during this most difficult time. Nettie loved all of her church families including Balfour Baptist Church in Hendersonville, NC, Mountain View Baptist Church in Tuxedo, NC, and most recently Barton’s Creek Baptist Church near her home in Lebanon, TN.  She was an active member of the Lebanon Senior Citizen’s Center where she enjoyed Bible studies, exercise classes, her TOPS meetings, and spending quality time with her friends.  Nettie was an avid reader, lover of books, food, and would wrangle everyone she could to play her favorite game, Triominoes.  She had a great love of animals and would spoil them rotten if you would let her.

Nettie is survived by her devoted daughter and caretaker, Joy Moran, her loving son John Davis (Joni) and her beloved niece who was more a daughter, Sarah Minchin. She proudly boasted the title of Mammaw to her three grandchildren that she loved dearly: Zachary, Emily and Amber Davis. She is also survived by her brother in law, Frank Vince, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Nettie was a beautiful person both inside and out. Her smile was so stunning it would light up the whole room. She was so kind and passionate and cared so deeply for the people around her. The impact she made on countless lives will be forever missed.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 29, 2023 at 6:30PM at Barton’s Creek Baptist Church (1530 Bartons Creek Rd. Lebanon, TN) with Pastor Jacob Colwell officiating. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00PM until service time at 6:30PM at the church. Her earthly remains will then be taken to Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Hendersonville, NC where her family will receive friends on Friday December 1, 2023 from 10:00AM until 12:00 Noon when graveside services will be conducted by Pastor Joe Lund at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
