Nancy E. Cook

Nancy E. Cook – Age 88.  July 13, 2022.  Nancy was born in Graves County, Kentucky on May 23, 1934.  She was the daughter of the late Sammie Briney and Jack Briney of Mayfield, Kentucky.  She was preceded in death by her husband Max W. Cook.  Nancy graduated from Murray State University and spent most of her life in education.  Nancy taught at Draughon’s Business College in Nashville, Lebanon High School where she also served as a teacher and as a principal.  She also served as the Director of School Food Services for the Wilson County Schools.   Nancy enjoyed teaching Sunday School at various churches for fifty-four years.

Survivors are sons Randy S. (Jenny Lee) Cook; Marc A. Cook; four grandchildren, Kristin (Luke) Puryear, Mallory (Adam) Maxwell, Alex Marshall and Peyton Ryan Cook.  She had five great grandchildren who became her pride and joy: Harper, Grace Ann, Max, Marshall, and Mary Alice.

Her remains rest at Crossroads Church, 300 North Maple Street, Lebanon, TN, where the family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.  Funeral service will be on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 6:00 pm at Crossroads Church.  Doors for the service will open at 5:30pm with son Randy Cook officiating the service.  Nancy was a lover of the color “pink” so those attending are encouraged to include that color in your choice of attire for the evening.  Interment will be private and for family only at the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

      Sorry for Nancy’s family. She was a wonderful person. I worked with her at Wilson County Schools Central Office. She always knew where the sales were & we spent several lunch hours shopping. I am out of town & will not make visitation or funeral. I visited her when she was at Elmcroft. We always had a good time talking.

Husband Max was instrumental in helping me acquire my second full time employment with Gaylord Entertainment Security. Never was the food and service any better than under Nancy’s supervision.     Was so sorry to hear of Miss Nancy’s passing, however I rejoice knowing that she is now at Home with her husband Max. Randy, your mother was such a blessing! My mom and I adored her, she had a great sense of humor, was a fabulous cook, and the spirit of the living God just radiated from her!     I too was touch by her. Only person who gave me the paddle in high school (tardiness). But it was out of love for her students and I truly feel it bothered her more than me.

    Austin and I moved to Lebanon in 1998 joining Emanuel Baptist almost immediately. We joined Max & Nancy’s Sunday School class and were members for years. Nancy was a natural leader and giver. She was welcoming and friendly, always fixing a meal for someone. I remember our class making Christmas boxes every year. We have many wonderful memories of our friendship with Nancy, a very special person.
