Glen Martin DeHaven

Glen Martin DeHaven, of Hendersonville, formerly of St. Marys, WV and Cumberland, MD completed his life’s journey on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Gallatin Center for Rehabilitation and Healing, Gallatin, TN.

Glen, born on June 6, 1945, in Cumberland, MD, was the son of the late Henry D. and Irene (Martin) DeHaven.

He attended Cresaptown School through ninth grade and graduated from Allegany High School with the Class of 1963.  He went on to study education at Frostburg State Teacher’s College, Frostburg, MD.  After graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, he started his teaching career as the history teacher at Oldtown School, Oldtown, MD.  He was promoted to  assistant principal and then later to principal of Oldtown School.

He returned to Frostburg State College to earn a master’s degree in education.  He then took the position of assistant principal of his alma mater, Allegany High School.  In 1986, he moved his family to St. Marys, West Virginia where he became principal of St. Marys High School.  He concluded his career in St. Marys as the Director of Special Education for Pleasants County Schools.

He and his wife, Jennie, both retired from education in 2008 and moved to Lebanon, Tennessee to be near their son and grandchildren.

Glen was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lebanon, Open Door Sunday School Class, Lebanon Masonic Lodge #98 and Cumberland, MD Scottish Rite.  One of his favorite hobbies was operating a flea market booth at Phoenix Flea Market in Old Hickory, TN.  He enjoyed visiting estate sales to search for those “special finds” to include in his booth’s inventory.  He always enjoyed meeting new people and interacting with other vendors.

In addition to his loving wife of 55 years, Jennie (McKenzie) DeHaven, he is survived by one son, Shawn M., and wife Jennifer (Nichols) DeHaven, two grandchildren, Scarlett I. DeHaven, and Grayson W. DeHaven of Hendersonville.  Also surviving are his brother, David L. DeHaven and wife, Elizabeth (Golden) of Springfield, VA; brother-in-law, James E. McKenzie, and wife Krista (Clark) of Ridgeley (Lakewood), WV; and 4 nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home, 241 West Main St., Lebanon with a Masonic Service by Lebanon Masonic Lodge #98 at 7:00 P.M.  Funeral service will be held at Bryant Chapel, First United Methodist Church, 415 West Main St., Lebanon on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. with visitation 1 hour before the service.  Rev. Steve Boutell and Rev. David Hesson will officiate.    Interment will be at Beech Cemetery, Long Hollow Pike, Hendersonville, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to New Leash on Life (507 Jim Draper Blvd. Lebanon, TN 37087).
