Gerald Gregory Maggart
Smith County native, Gerald Gregory Maggart, died February 16, 2015 in his home in Lebanon, TN after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born June 10, 1938 to the late Clifton and Lula Mae Gregory Maggart. He graduated from Tennessee Technological University in 1959 with a B.S. in business.
Gerald spent most of his career in sales and sales management beginning with the Nashville Gas Company. He worked for Skinner, Menasha, Ohio Valley, and RockTenn as district sales manager. Gerald sold and specialized in designing boxes and other containers for a variety of products to meet the needs of his customers.
Mr. Maggart served as a bi-vocational pastor of Bending Chestnut Baptist Church and Patterson Baptist Church, located in Williamson and Rutherford Counties in TN. He was also co-pastor and associate pastor of two other churches. Gerald was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Lebanon, TN. In his church work, he also taught Sunday School for adults, young people, and boys; served as deacon; and served on numerous church committees. Gerald volunteered at Nashville Rescue Mission where he taught and held church services for those who were homeless. He used his time and talents to support a build for Habitat for Humanity in Davidson and Wilson counties. He loved Jesus, was compassionate for the needy, and had a passion for missions both in our state, nation, and around the world.
Gerald is survived by his beloved wife, Melba Jean (Mullican) Maggart, and children, Karen (Maggart) and James White. He is preceded in death by his son, James Gregory Maggart in 2000. Also surviving are his grandchildren Kristi (White) and Thomas Brooks; and Jamie (White) and Jeremy Hubbell; four great-grandchildren, Hannah Brooks, Jacey Hubbell, Jaden Hubbell, and Noah Brooks; his Aunt Ruth (Gregory) Denney, Uncle Wilbur and Aunt Margaret Maggart, and Aunt Eddie (Erwin) Maggart
Visitation will be Immanuel Baptist Church, 214 Castle Heights Ave., Lebanon from 9:30 AM until the services at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 21, 2015. Services will be conducted by Bro. John Hunn, Bro. Donald Owens, Bro. Tom Suiter, and Bro. W.D. Thomason. Music will be performed by the New Life Trio and Fred Vanhook. Pallbearers will be Terry Maggart, Joe Maggart, Benny Maggart, Bill Denney, Sam Kirby, and Gayle (Maggart) Trupiano. Honorary pall bearers will be the members of the Fishers of Men Sunday School Class (2010-13) from West Hills Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Saylors Cemetery in White County, TN.
