Elizabeth Sue Pruitt Markham

Funeral service for Ms. Elizabeth Sue Pruitt Markham will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home with Bro. Edward L. Anderson officiating.  Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery.  Visitation Saturday 11:00 A.M. – 2 P.M. at Ligon & Bobo.

Ms. Markham, age 84 of Lebanon passed away August 14, 2023, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro.

Born July 29, 1939, in Granville, Tennessee, she is the daughter of the late Carl Smith Pruitt and Mable Maurine Kirby Pruitt.  She retired in 2001, after a thirty year career in teaching, with the last eighteen years teaching kindergarten at Forks River School in Smith County.  She was a member of Adams Avenue Church of Christ.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Marilyn Joyce Pruitt, brother, Billy Smith Pruitt, and a sister in law, Anita Pruitt.

She is survived by two children: Susie (Jeff) Cogdill of Murfreesboro and Billy L. Markham Jr. of South Carthage; two granddaughters, Addie Elizabeth Markham and Hailey Beth Markham; brother, Bobby Carl Pruitt of Lebanon; three nephews and two nieces.

    Ms. Sue was a very special person. I knew Ms. Sue from Adam Ave. She always had a small her face. My prayers are with y’all Thur this hard time.

    Ms. Sue was my son’s kindergarten teacher a Forks River. She was a true lady and loved all of her students.

    She was my kindergarten teacher at Forks River School.I have seen her a few times when I visited the assisted living.She’s always been such as sweet lady.My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

    Ms.Sue was my daughter’s teacher at Forks River. She was definitely one of a kind. She was so sweet. My condolences to her family and prayers in the coming days.

    I met Sue over 40 years ago, we were very close and she was like a sister to me. We lost contact the past few years due to me having cancer, chemo and surgeries, but she was always a special lady and I loved her always.
