Mrs. Corley, age 95 of Lebanon passed away January 8, 2024.

Dorothy Jean Corley was born May 27, 1928 in Old Hickory Tennessee. During that time her father was working at DuPont and her mother cooked and served meals in their home to many DuPont employees. During The Great Depression, she moved back to Lebanon to be closer to family. She received her education from Lebanon City Schools and, at that time, would constantly work after school and on weekends.

In Lebanon, she was in awe of Caruthers Hall, the famous “Law Barn” of The Cumberland University School of Law. This elaborate building, which she constantly walked or drove by, was full of items that fascinated her: Books. This inspired her lifelong love of reading.

Dorothy started her first job at age 13. She vividly recalled the V.E. (Victory in Europe) celebration near the town square in 1945. She continued to work multiple jobs in the Lebanon community. She eventually retired from Robert Shaw Lux plant after working there for almost 20 years. She was an accomplished cook and loved to prepare meals for her family. An avid reader, she spent a great deal of her retirement time reading and critiquing books and authors.  She considered the greatest accomplishment of her life was to encourage her children and others to complete a college education. All of her children and a number of her grandchildren and great-children have advanced degrees. She was a dedicated member of Adams Avenue Church of Christ and touched many with her kind and unselfish manner.

She is preceded in death by her father Walter Worley, her mother Mary Lou Greer Worley, her brother Manford “Bill” Worley, and her sister Kay Hunter.

Robert (Jack) Corley is her much-admired and well-loved husband of over 55 years. She had three children: Barbara (Roy) Presley, Mike (Pat) Suite, and Lex (Lana) Suite. She had five grandchildren: the late Kim Presley, Kurt (Shanda) Presley, Danielle Suite, Carson (Kara) Suite, and Ally (Mitchell) Stembridge, Great-Grandchildren, Derrick & Alex Babbitt; Samuel, Abigail, and Nathaniel Presley; Kylie & Cash Suite, and Kyle (Karsen) Dallas; and great great grandchildren: Hallie, Hazley & Addison Babbitt, and Berkley Dallas; nieces and nephews.

Messages for the Family

  1. Darlene Binkley says:
My thoughts and prayers for you Ally. I remember how you told me stories about your grandmother.
  2. Ann Garner says:
    Mike, Lex, Barbara,
Over the past few years, Aunt Dot has connected our families through her elegantly, hand-written letters and shared photos. Her love and admiration for her family filled the pages. My heart is heavy as I realize I have lost my personal, adored, and beautiful family connection.
Our thoughts, prayers, and love will be there with you on Saturday. God is good.
Ann and Larry Garner Jacksonville, TX
  3. Barbara Presley says:
Ann & Larry, thank you so much. Mama loved you both. She talked frequently about the letters, both those sent to you and the letters received. You all will be with us in our hearts on Saturday.
