Sarah Vance Halbert
Mrs. Sarah Vance Halbert, age 87 of the Taylorsville Community passed away May 3, 2024, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro. Born in Smith County, July 6, 1936, she was the daughter of the late George Tillman Vance and Fannie Elnor Vaden Vance. She was a 1954 graduate of Smith County High School. In her youth she attended Caney Fork Missionary Baptist Church in the Helms Bend Community of Smith County. She later joined Athens Missionary Baptist Church by experience and baptism where she remained a member until her death. She was a teacher’s aide for over twenty years in the Wilson County School System and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Robert B. Halbert Sr.; grandson, Nick Forbes; two brothers: J.T. Vance and James Vance; sister, Lois Vance.
Survivors include three children: Melinda (Mike) Forbes, Robert “Bob” (Amy) Halbert, Patrick (Carrie) Halbert; six grandchildren: Kyle Forbes, Hannah (Cody) Smith, Emily, Will, Lucas, and Grant Halbert; six great-grandchildren: Troy, Carter, Eli, and Brooklyn Forbes, Case and Emma Kai Smith; great-great-grandchild, Kenslei Forbes; brother-in-law, Hamlet Halbert; sister-in-law, Margaret Vance.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 1 p.m. from the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Lebanon, with Eld. Jeff Blackwell and Bro. Sam Vance officiating. Interment – Wilson County Memorial Gardens. Active Pallbearers: Kyle Forbes, Will, Lucas, and Grant Halbert, Mark, Joe, Tommy and Russell Vance. Honorary Pallbearers: Tim, Bo and Tommy Halbert, Shane Hoffman, Doug Lasater. The Halbert family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Sarah’s many friends, neighbors, frequent visitors and caregivers. Visitation Monday 3-7 p.m. and Tuesday 10 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Athens Missionary Baptist Church.
