Lewis Kelly Vantrease
Funeral service for Mr. Lewis Kelly Vantrease will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 26, 2024, at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation Thursday 4 – 7 P.M. and Friday after 12 Noon at Ligon & Bobo.
Mr. Vantrease, age 83 of Lebanon passed away January 19, 2024, at his home.
Born October 12, 1940, in Wilson County, he is the son of the late Henry “Shorty” and Susie Ella Criswell Vantrease. He was a proud United States Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War, and attended Laguardo Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He worked for Texas Boot Company for almost 40 years. After retirement, he often stated “I get to go to work” at the Boot Barn in Goodlettsville, a job he truly enjoyed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Peyton Vantrease and Sammy Jay Vantrease.
He had a robust love of travel. He enjoyed exploring new places both foreign and domestic. He never missed an opportunity to go on a trip. One of his favorite ways to travel was onboard a cruise ship. He was always planning his next adventure. He was often found in one of his favorite rocking chairs.
He is survived by his wife of more than sixty years, Joyce Bates Vantrease; two children: Valerie Joyce (Michael) Griffin and Nicholas John (Christina) Vantrease; grandson, Conner Bruce; sisters-in-law: Barbara Vantrease, Dora Vantrease, Deanie (Jimmy) Eastland, and Sandra Youngs; brother-in-law, Wayne (Ann) Bates; many nieces and nephews.
