Gary Blake Golden
Gary Blake Golden went home to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on August 16, 2024, at the age of 73.
He was born on April 10, 1951 to Doyle Blake Golden and Mattie Louise (Harris) Golden, in Dallas, Texas.
Gary went to Eastern Hills High School graduating in 1969. He pursued a degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, earning a B.S. in Architecture.
He established a distinguished career in commercial architecture over his 50 years working for many prestigious firms such as Gensler and AECOM, in Texas, California, and Georgia. His last seven years he enjoyed working with Harrison Kornberg Architects, Houston. Regardless of where his work projects took him and his family, he remained a Texan at heart. Over those 50 years, Gary performed remarkable work on projects across the spectrum from aviation to education to healthcare to entertainment and hospitality. He genuinely loved his work and was exceptionally good at it.
He loved the Lord, his family, and his friends. He enjoyed reading Scripture and listening to worship music. He especially loved Southern Gospel, particularly the singers and musicians associated with the Gaither Homecoming community.
He had a sharp wit and loved to laugh and make others laugh. He had a kind, welcoming, generous, and unselfish spirit. He loved to help people and never met a stranger.
He was naturally curious and a life-long student of history, particularly the siege at the Alamo, and all the stories of heroism out of WWII. He loved college football, particularly the Georgia Bulldogs, and was a lifelong, loyal (and long-suffering) fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He loved Elvis and his music. He adored spending time with dogs of all breeds, particularly the ones over the years we cared for in our home. And really appreciated good, homecooked meals.
He was married to Marsha Vickers Golden, whom he loved deeply for 40 years. And he built a family with Marsha, and his stepson, James Joseph (Joe) Ward, who has always been a son of his heart, and a daughter, Kristen Golden, who has always been the apple of his eye. Joe met his wife, Heather Meyer Ward, and knew she was perfect for Joe and a special blessing to our family. Joe and Heather gave him a granddaughter and grandson, Presley and Ethan, that he loved and adored. He was proud of his family. And he was a man of integrity. He lived his life in a way that respected and protected his family. He was content and felt blessed that he and Marsha had recently moved to Lebanon, Tennessee, to be close to all their family.
But, more importantly than anything else, he lived his life in a way that honored the one that he loved the most—Jesus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Ronald F. Golden. He was survived by his wife, Marsha Golden, Lebanon, TN, his children, Kristen Golden, Lebanon, TN; and Joe and Heather Ward; and his grandchildren, Presley and Ethan, Franklin, TN. And he is survived by many friends he made along the way in Texas, California, Georgia, and Tennessee.
Graveside Services were held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lebanon, Tennessee, where Gary’s earthly body was laid to rest.
