Eld. Leon White

Eld. Leon White age 92 of Lebanon passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, August 12, 2025.  Born Edgar Leon White on February 28, 1933, in the Grant Community of Smith County, TN, he was one of fourteen children of the late Charlie Burley White and Annie Lee Craig White.  He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran.  He retired from Vanderbilt University Medical Center after thirty years of service as heating and air maintenance technician. He was a missionary Baptist minister for over fifty-one years.

Eld. White was saved in June of 1946 at the age of thirteen at the Auburntown Baptist Church.  He later united with Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville by experience and baptism. He was baptized into the fellowship of the church by the late Eld. Howard Taylor.  He was called of God to preach the gospel, August 20, 1966.  He was licensed to preach by Faith Missionary Baptist Church, July 14, 1974.  He was ordained to the full work of the ministry, November 19, 1983, by Old Paths Missionary Baptist Church in Lebanon.  He had a nursing home ministry at Quality Care holding services for several years.  He served as pastor of Faith in Nashville from September 1992-January 1994 and then pastored Old Paths in Lebanon November 1995-June 2011.  He had the privilege of attending the Minister’s School at Old Union Missionary Baptist Church in Bowling Green, KY, several times where he enjoyed the fellowship of his preacher brethren.

In addition to his parents, Eld. White was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mary Elizabeth Jones White who passed away February 26, 2001; his wife of 23 years, Ruby Webb Wilson White who passed away February 12, 2025, just six months to the day prior to his death; son, Randall Lee “Rudy” White; three brothers:  Harry, Dewey, and Homer White; seven sisters:  Beulah Perry, Frances Darnell, Ruth McNulty, Wanda Joy Dix, Linda Hall, Charlene Murphy, and Carolyn Loveall.

Survivors include two grandchildren: Leah Elizabeth White, Eli (Jennifer) White; two great-grandchildren: Corleigh Conrad, Lane White; daughter-in-law, Dianne White; brother, Paul (Judy) White; two sisters: Carlene (Jerry) Martin, Pauline (Jim) Meyer; brother-in-law, Edward (Judith) Webb; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 12 Noon from the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home, Lebanon, with Eld. Junior Dickerson, Eld. Anthony Dixon and Bro. Frankie Lee Downs officiating.  Interment with military honors in Conatser Cemetery.  Active pallbearers: Eli White, Eld. Tim Lowhorn, Jordan Key, Mark Lannom, Glenn Hollis, Eddie Woodard.  Honorary pallbearers: Debbie Lannom, Elder Jason Wheeley.  The family extends a special thanks to Kaye Doss and Gentiva Hospice for their care over the past year.  Memorial contributions may be made to Old Paths Missionary Baptist Church, Lebanon, TN.  Visitation Friday 3-7 p.m. and Saturday after 10 a.m. at Ligon & Bobo.
