Dene Massey Owens

Mrs. Dene Massey Owens age 90 of the Rome Community in Smith County passed away January 6, 2025, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville.  She was born in Smith County, Tennessee, July 1, 1934, daughter of the late George Lillard Massey Sr. and Myra Cutrell Massey.  She was a 1953 graduate of Smith County High School.  She worked at Robertshaw in Lebanon for a time and was a homemaker.  She was a faithful member of the Rome Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Ray Owens; great-grandson, Noah Gabriel Owens; two sisters:  Edna Earl Hesson, Katherine Woodard; three brothers:  Kenneth, James and George Lillard Massey, Jr.; step-mother, Bertha Massey; half-sister, Rose Marie Taylor.

Survivors include: two sons:  Dale (Marty) Owens, James T. (Brenda) Owens; four grandchildren:  Sean (Anita) Owens, J.B. (Bethany) Owens, Scot (Skylyn) Owens, Jill (Chris) Fariss; six great-grandchildren:  Anna, Audrey, Alex and Camille Owens, Kenidy and Emery Fariss; twin brother, Gene Massey; half-sister, Betty (Joe) Estes.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 1 p.m. from the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Lebanon, with longtime minister and friend, Stan Stevenson officiating.  Interment – Smith County Memorial Gardens, Carthage, Tennessee.  Pallbearers:  Sean, Scot, J.B., Alex and Danny Wayne Owens, Chris Fariss, Benny Woodard, and Scott Massey.  Visitation Tuesday 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rome Church of Christ or the charity of your choice.
