Doug Cather Obit PicRev. Douglas Cather, age 91, of Lebanon, a minister of the gospel and missionary to Africa, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015, at Southern Manor.  Funeral services for “Bro. Doug” will be 11:00 AM Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Suiter officiating.  Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Woodbury.  Visitation will be Wednesday 3-6 PM and Thursday after 10 AM at Ligon & Bobo.

Born October 10, 1923, in Roanoke, Virginia, he is the son of the late Mary Ruth Lucado Cather and William Benson Cather, Sr.  He grew up in Bristol, TN.  At an early age, Doug asked Jesus to forgive him of his sins and to come into his heart as Savior and Lord. Doug has been faithfully serving his Lord ever since.  In 1952, Doug married Sarah Bragg whom he met while they both worked on their masters degrees at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX.  In 1953, Doug and Sarah were commissioned as Southern Baptist missionaries to Ghana, W. Africa, where they served until 1966. From 1966-71, he was the pastor of Scenic Park Baptist in Bristol, VA.  From 1971-1980, Doug was the Director of Missions for the Wilson County Baptist Association.  In his retirement, Doug was interim pastor in several churches in Wilson County and in Kentucky. He also enjoyed delivering Dominos pizzas for 10 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty two years, Sarah Ellen Bragg Cather on July 3, 2014; brother and sister in law, Bill and Vi Cather; sisters in law, Sue Bragg Land and Christine Bragg; and brothers-in-law, Howard Bragg and James Bragg.

He is survived by three children, Millie (Dan) Falls, Anita (David) Roche, and Bill (Lindsey) Cather; grandchildren, Hannah Ruth Cather, Charles Douglas Roche, Andrew Hartmann Cather, and William Eric Cather; step grandchildren, Justin Falls and Andrea Falls; step great grandchildren, Lyric Stow and Wesley Stow; brother in law, J. D. Land; and sister in law, Barbara Bragg.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the Lottie Moon offering at Rocky Valley Baptist Church, or to the International Mission Board.
