Oleta Hall Winfree
Mrs. Oleta Hall Winfree, age 89 of Lebanon, passed away on Tuesday January 5, 2016 at University Medical Center. She was born on January 11, 1926 in DeKalb County to the late Clark and Ola Grandstaff Hall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Hall Floyd.
Mrs. Oleta was a very active person in the community. She loved her church, Westland United Methodist, where she spent countless hours serving her Lord and others in many capacities. Mrs. Winfree worked for 25 years at Castle Heights Military Academy before moving on to work for the Lebanon City Schools, where she was a secretary at Byars Dowdy and Coles Ferry Elementary Schools. She was a district officer for many years with the United Methodist Women, as well as a longtime volunteer at UMC Hospital in Lebanon. Mrs. Oleta also belonged to the Twin States Iris Society. She most recently has dedicated much of her time to the local chapter of AARP in Lebanon.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Cordell Winfree, children; Nan Winfree of Lebanon, Dan Brice (Cindy) Winfree of Spring Hill, TN, and Lou Ann (Kenneth) Knight of Fleming Island, FL, grandchildren; Brandon (Casey) Romer of Mt. Pleasant, TN, Austin Winfree of Spring Hill, TN, Britney Knight of Gainesville, FL, Taylor and Travis Knight both of Fleming Island, FL, great-grandchildren; Addison and Daxton Romer of Mt. Pleasant, TN.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday January 9, 2016 at 11am from the Westland United Methodist Church in Lebanon. Rev. Tim Palmer will officiate and interment will follow in Wilson County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 3pm-7pm at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home and again on Saturday after 10am at Westland United Methodist Church. The family requests that In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Winfree’s honor to Westland United Methodist Church or to the Winfree – Bryant Middle School.
Pallbearers will be: Brandon Romer, Austin Winfree, Kenneth, Travis, and Taylor Knight, Stan Wills, and James Ray Moore. Honorary Pallbearers will be the United Methodist Women of Westland Church, The Twin States Iris Society, and the Local Chapter of AARP.
