Newell “Red” Jenkins

Mr. Newell “Red” Jenkins age 88 of Lebanon passed away May 24, 2018. He was born in the Rawls Creek Community of Smith County, TN, September 14, 1929, son of the late Harry and Velma Mofield Jenkins.  He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and was a life-long farmer.  He served on the Wilson County Commission, was a member of the Wilson County Livestock Association, Wilson County Co-Op, Wilson County Farm Bureau, Tuckers Cross Roads Grange.  He was named Wilson County Soil Conservationist of the Year and Wilson County Old Timer of the Wilson County Fair.  He was very supportive of Wilson County 4-H and was inducted to the Wilson County Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2012.  Over a period of years, he established over 300 acres of improved pastures, 8 farm ponds, one fish pond and 6 acres of grassed waterways.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Thelma Bush Jenkins; son, Darrell Jenkins; son-in-law, Greg Marsh; sister, Delia Wilson; two brothers: Haskell and Harold Jenkins.  He is survived by daughter, Diane Marsh; four grandchildren:  Lorie (Lee) Jacobs, Aaron Jenkins, Tabitha and Tiffany Jenkins; daughter-in-law, Ria Jenkins.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 28, 2018, at 2 p.m. from the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home with Bro. Glenn Denton and Bro Mike Shelby officiating. Interment – Bethlehem Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers:  Tiffany and Tabitha Jenkins, Lorie Jacobs, Brittany Duke, Jennifer McKinney, Tracy Jenkins, Cindy Comer, Barbara Driver, Beth Petty, Sherry Thorne, Michele Carson, Penny Richards, Sue Harris, Jennifer Rickman; Honorary Pallbearers:  Aaron Jenkins, Lee Jacobs, Terry “Cotton” Murray, Tyler Goodrum, Stratton, Gordon and Hal Bone.  Visitation Sunday 12 Noon- 7 p.m. and Monday 12 Noon-2 p.m.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wilson County Agriculture Hall of Fame or Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund.
