Funeral services for Mr. Kenneth Walker Hughes will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 6, 2016, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Hesson officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation Saturday 2–5 PM at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home and Sunday after 1 PM at First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Hughes, age 88 of Lebanon passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at University Medical Center.
Born February 23, 1928, in Wilson County, he is the son of the late Hubie Walker Hughes and Ruby Stone Hughes. He was an Army veteran having served during World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, and was a former member of First Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and sang in the choir. He co-owned Lebanon Heating & Air, retiring in 1994. He was very active in LLL and the Lebanon Senior Citizens Center, and also sang in the Bert Coble Singers and the Joy Choir. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Williams Hughes on April 24, 2011; son, Steven Walker Hughes in 1955; and a sister, Evelyn Townsend.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Kingsley Lowe Hughes; son, Randall Walker Hughes; daughter and son in law, Harriett and David Thorne; two grandsons, Shane (Lisa) Thorne and Nick (Haley) Thorne; great grandchildren, Travis, Whitney and Vivian Thorne; step son, Greg Sullins; step daughter, Sherry (Kip) Lester; and step grandchildren: Blake Sullins, Bryce & Aaryn Grace Lester.
Honorary pallbearers: Tom & Jeri Galyon, James Parkerson, Don Bennett, T. A. Bryan, members of First Baptist Church, LLL, and Lebanon Senior Citizens Center.
Active pallbearers: Randall Hughes, David, Nick & Shane Thorne, Greg Sullins, and Bob Townsend.
