Julia Jennings Bates

Julia Bates webMrs. Julia Jennings Bates age 95 of Lebanon died November 23, 2014, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  A native of Wilson County, she was the daughter of the late Claude Buist Jennings and Arvie Peek Jennings.  She was a 1937 graduate of Mt. Juliet High School and a member of Highland Heights Church of Christ.  She retired from the Lebanon City Schools where she worked as a teacher’s aide and volunteered at the former McFarland Hospital for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Oldham Bates; infant daughter, Sally Ann Bates; brother, Bennett Jennings; sister-in-law, Clara Bates; nephew, Peyton Bates.  Survived by son, Sherlie Lee Bates; sister-in-law, Sarah Jennings; nieces:  Mary (Ron) Claiborne and Judy Jennings; nephews:  Frank (Margie) Jennings and Ken (Karen) Jennings; great-nieces and nephews:  Gary (Kim) Claiborne and Kelly Claiborne; Jennifer Gray, Kendall, Jeff, and Jonathan Jennings; pet companion, Bandit.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at 11 a.m. from the Highland Heights Church of Christ with Barry Keene, F.H. Gates and Corey Waddell officiating.  Interment – Wilson County Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers: Jeff and Jonathan Jennings, Ron Claiborne, Sam Burton, James Lee, Walter Heckman.  Visitation Tuesday 4-8 p.m. at Ligon & Bobo and Wednesday after 9 a.m. at Highland Hts.  The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Highland Hts. Church of Christ Mission Fund.
