Jerry D. Hunt

Funeral services for Mr. Jerry D. Hunt will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Temple Baptist Church, 211 Coles Ferry Pike, Lebanon, with Bro. Rodney Haskin officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.  Visitation Friday 4-8 PM at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home and Saturday after 9 AM at Temple Baptist Church.

Mr. Hunt, age 85 of Lebanon passed away June 8, 2021, at his home.

Born February 17, 1936, in Wilson County, he is the son of the late Sam Donald Hunt and Margaret Louise Bryant Hunt.  He served in the United States Air Force for twenty years, and went on to graduate from the University of Nebraska Omaha and Texas Tech University Law School in Lubbock, Texas.  He then returned to Lebanon to practice law.  He retired as Assistant District Attorney.  He also had served on the Lebanon City Council, and served as judge for the City of Watertown.  He attended Temple Baptist Church, and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Mike Hunt and Tommy “Pee Wee” (Dixie) Hunt.

He is survived by his wife of over fifty seven years, Eva Campos Hunt; three children: Jay Dee (Susan) Hunt, Jon Derrick Hunt, and Jeri Hunt Arceaneux; granddaughter, Aislin Arceaneux; great grandson, Vincent Soloman Yates; sister, Nancy Mason; and sister in law, Mary Belle Hunt.

    I’m so sorry to hear this. We rented our building space from Mr. Jerry and he was always so good to us. I always looked forward to his visits. He was great about sharing a little bit about the Lebanon of yester-year. Over the years, he gave advice when asked, and I will forever remember his kindness in doing so.     Jerry was one of the best “country lawyers” I have ever had the fortune to know. You could tell when he was in Court that each one of his clients was important to him. I learned from watching him practice his craft. Jerry served the City of Watertown well as City Judge and he would tell me from time to time “any time you want to get someone else, just let me know”. That never happened and he eventually gave that job up at the time he chose. I cannot remember a time when my wife and I ran into Jerry and Ms. Eva that they didn’t have a smile on their faces and time to talk. The condolences of Janice and I are with Ms. Eva and the Hunt family.
