Gloria Mubarek Goodhouse

Mrs. Gloria Mubarek Goodhouse, of Lebanon, died peacefully June 15, 2016 at Southern Manor in Lebanon of natural causes.She was 89.

Mrs. Goodhouse was the second daughter of Said and Ida (Diab) Mubarek, of Torrington, Conn. She graduated from Torrington High School and Quinnipiac College, and as a young woman worked at the well-known ice cream parlor owned by her father, the VeriBest, formerly located at Number 1 Main Street before Torrington’s 1955 flood.

She went on to be the secretary to the general manager at Torrington’s Hayden Manufacturing Co., where she met and married Carl J. Goodhouse, an engineer, of Litchfield.

During her time in Litchfield, from 1950-1979, she was a member of the Litchfield Woman’s League and several organizations in the town. In 1968, she became the office manager of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, supporting Dr. Howard Dunn and Rev. David Gurniak, until she moved to Lebanon with her husband in 1979. Carl Goodhouse was head of engineering and industrial sales at the Lux Time Division of Robertshaw Controls.

She is survived by her son, Robert C. (Margaret) Goodhouse, of Alexandria, Va.; her grandsons, Andrew, of Montreal, Canada, Alexander, of Boston; her sisters, Katherine Diab, Delores Holland, Virginia Curdi; and several nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her eldest son, Karl (Cynthia), of Oak Park, Ill.; and her brother, Edmond N. (Patricia), of Torrington.
