Doris was a dedicated wife, loving mother and grandmother, and wonderful example of faith, hope, and love. Doris was born on March 5, 1931, in Wilson County, to  Alex Bobo and Vera Ligon Bobo. She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1949.  She attended David Lipscomb College where she met the love of her life, William Randall Newman.  Doris graduated from UT Knoxville.  She and Randall were married in January 1954.  They enjoyed 61 wonderful years of marriage.  They made their home in Lebanon, where they were blessed with three children, Lori, Jenny Lynn, and Randy.   Doris taught fifth grade for many years, first at Highland Heights Elementary in Lebanon and then at David Lipscomb Elementary in Nashville.  After retiring from teaching, she enjoyed working along side her sister, Joyce Bobo Barry, at Fite Realty in Lebanon.

Through the years, Doris has been active at several local churches. She was a long time member of College Street Church of Christ where she was raised, and began raising her young family.  Doris later joined her husband as he preached at both Adams Grove and Alexandria Churches of Christ. Most recently, they have worshipped with the Maple Hill Church of Christ.

Doris enjoyed golfing with her friends at the Lebanon Golf and Country Club and serving others in many ways.  She often arranged flowers for various church and community occasions.  Wedding coordination and flower arranging were skills she learned as a very young woman when she managed the flower shop that was once adjacent to Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home, which was founded by her parents and grandparents.
