Donald D. Gilbert

Mr. Donald D. Gilbert age 95 of Smithville and a long-time resident of Lebanon passed away June 19, 2019 at his home.  Born in Gallatin, Tennessee, June 17, 1924, he was the son of the late George Washington Gilbert and Nancy Ella Vanderpool Gilbert.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.  After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he went on to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for twenty years.  After retiring for the second time, he went to work at the Lebanon Wal-Mart where he worked another fifteen years.  He attended the Smithville Church of God.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Cecile Anderson Gilbert; brother, Mack Gilbert; sister, Margaret Gilbert Hofstettler.

He is survived by:  three children:  Joan (Ted) Buckeridge, Mac (Carolyn) Gilbert, Nancy Gilbert Roy; six grandchildren:  Angela Jones, Keith (Desiree) Gilbert, Sarah (Micah) Shelby, Stephanie (Marlow Seay) Reeves, Bobby Pendleton, Jennifer (Joshua) Tallent; nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 23, 2019, at 2 p.m. from the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Moore officiating.  Interment – Cedar Grove Cemetery.  Visitation Saturday 1-8 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Wilson County Veterans Museum.
